Retro car exhibition and demonstration performances by Vitebsk paratroopers: what will surprise "Dazhynki-2021" in Shumilino
According to Petr Podgursky, head of the culture department of the regional executive committee, it has recently become fashionable to travel around one's native region and learn more about its history and features.
Right at the railway station of the district center, one can see a bust of Pavel Melnikov, the first Minister of Railways of the Russian Empire. Under his leadership, the construction of the Daugavpils-Vitebsk line of the Riga-Oryol Railway, which passed through Shumilino, was carried out. Its opening took place on October 5, 1866, and now a юбилей date will be celebrated. The exhibition "Milestones and Roads Unite Us. Stations of Memory," dedicated to the 155th anniversary of the railway line, will be located on the station square. In addition to the hosts, Vitebsk, Verkhnedvinsk, Gorodok, Orsha, Senno, Glubokoye, and Postavy districts, where the railway once ran, will present historical materials and various rarities.
Petr Podgursky recommends visiting the new building of the Shumilino Historical and Local Lore Museum. For example, the exposition features mammoth remains discovered in 1992 on the banks of the Western Dvina near the village of Terbeshovo. Among them is the lower jaw of the prehistoric animal – such a complete fragment is not found in any museum in the country. By the way, the main river of the Vitebsk region hundreds of years ago was an integral part of the route from the Varangians to the Greeks. At one time, coins of the Arab Caliphate and Byzantium, as well as weights dating back to the 10th century, were found by archaeologists in the kurgans near the village of Kordon. This indicates that trade flourished here. Shumilino region is also known for the fact that near the village of Gorki is the largest boulder in Belarus. The "Devil's Stone" is 11 m long, 5.6 m wide, and has a visible height of 2.8 m. Scientists claim that the boulder weighs 292 tons. It was brought here during the last glaciation 18,000 years ago from the Vyborg massif.
Festival guests will be able to explore exhibitions of vintage cars, modern agricultural machinery, and loaves of bread from Vitebskhlebprom enterprises. Products made in the workshops of educational institutions traditionally attract interest. The regional sheaf competition will be held in the reconstructed House of Culture. Mini-football and basketball competitions will take place at the renovated stadium, and everyone will have the opportunity to try karting. Representatives of fire and rescue sports will demonstrate their skills on the running track.
Demonstration performances by servicemen of the 103rd mobile brigade with an exhibition of weapons and equipment will be held. Employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations will conduct various contests and educational games for children focused on learning the basics of life safety.
The celebration of grain growers with a festive program will begin at 13:00. Afterwards, residents and guests of "Dazhynki" will enjoy an evening concert. In total, about seventy creative groups from all over the Vitebsk region will perform on the stages in Shumilino.
The organizers promise that the festival will be interesting and dynamic.
