Street cleaning and snow removal: utility workers are accelerating the arrival of spring in Vitebsk
Communal enterprise employees continue to work hard daily to clear the city of snow and ice to bring spring closer.
At GP "Gordormost", the schedule during the winter season is round-the-clock. As reported by Deputy Chief Engineer Natalia Bulanchikova, for example, today in the daytime shift, 42 units of equipment and 102 workers of the manual cleaning section are working on the city streets. The daytime task includes treating the road surface with anti-icing mixture, clearing accumulated snow with bulldozers along the outer lanes of the streets, and maximizing its removal to landfills. By the way, over 140 thousand cubic meters of snow from city territories have already been sent there. Recently, less transport from involved organizations has been used for removal; they primarily rely on their own capabilities.
Gordormost's "operational development" for Thursday includes the road to the regional center for rehabilitation of internationalist soldiers, Gagarin Street and the private sector in Zhurzhevo, Pravdy Street, Karl Marx Street, Lokomotivnaya Street, and others. Manual cleaning workers are paying attention to clearing ice on the Blokhina bridge, as well as public transport stops in different parts of the city.
We asked the specialist about the fate of the huge and dense snowdrifts, which were collected everywhere by equipment during periods of heavy snowfall.
– As far as possible, we will remove them and help the snow melt faster, – replied Natalia Bulanchikova.
Workers of GP "ZhRET of Vitebsk" have the same concerns in their serviced areas. Where the passages are particularly narrow due to accumulated snow, it is broken up and removed to the snow landfill. Today, 20 units of equipment are working.
– Janitors, and there are 189 of them plus 39 hired workers, are gritting where necessary, clearing paths and steps, and breaking up compacted snow to make courtyards safer for residents, – noted Elena Vertinskaya, Deputy Head of the Housing and Utilities Maintenance Department. – Fortunately, it's already easier to do this with the thaw.
