The Republican campaign of the Belarusian Red Cross "Your Help" was launched on the Day of the Elderly in the region's medical institutions
As noted by Galina Zhelanova, Chairperson of the regional organization of the Belarusian Red Cross Society, 85% of those undergoing inpatient treatment here are elderly people. In total, over 260,000 elderly citizens live in the region, of whom 140,000 live alone, and 20,000 are single citizens.
– During the campaign, which will last until November 14, we will visit nursing care hospitals, boarding institutions, and patients served by the Red Cross nursing service, – noted Galina Petrovna. – This year, schoolchildren joined the campaign, who prepared their congratulations for our grandmothers and grandfathers. We received over 1000 handmade cards. Today we saw how touching the moments of communication between patients and children were.
Indeed, everyone was moved. The faces of both patients and medical staff were beaming with smiles. And the students of the 4th "B" grade of Secondary School No. 3 named after Leonid Belitsky helped to bring rays of kindness and hope into the hospital environment. They recited poems, wished everyone a speedy recovery, and presented cards. The patients sincerely thanked the girls, treated them to sweets, and wished them every success.
Warm words were found for everyone by Andrey Kakoychenko, Deputy Head of the Main Department for Healthcare of the Regional Executive Committee, and Yevgeny Kulyakin, acting Chief Physician of City Hospital No. 1.
In addition to children's cards, patients received hygiene kits, and the hospital itself received two hefty bales of blankets from the Red Cross.
