Digital hygiene against cyberattacks. Vladimir Yurgevich held the Unified Information Day at the Vitebsk branch of Belarusian Railways
Cyberattacks on information infrastructure are one of the most significant and constantly growing threats to global security today. Against the backdrop of universal digitalization, this problem is evolving, facilitated by the widespread use of artificial intelligence. This was highlighted by Vladimir Yurgevich, Aide to the President of the Republic of Belarus – Inspector for the Vitebsk Region, during a meeting with the staff of the Vitebsk branch of Belarusian Railways as part of the Unified Information Day.
The problem of cyber threats is highly relevant for our country. According to the results of a study conducted last year, Belarus ranks third in the CIS countries most frequently subjected to cyberattacks.
– Every fifth attack in our country targets the public sector, the industrial sphere is second, and the financial sector is third, – noted Vladimir Yurgevich.
Moreover, every second cyberattack leads to the leakage of confidential data. More than half of the stolen information consists of personal data and trade secrets.
In Belarus, the fight against cyber threats is being conducted in several areas. The Presidential Decree "On Cybersecurity" implements a comprehensive, multi-level mechanism to counter cyberattacks on government bodies and organizations, and critical information infrastructure. A National Center for Cybersecurity and Incident Response has been established. International cooperation in this area has been organized. Other measures are also being taken.
– At the same time, for the protection of personal data to be truly effective, joint efforts are needed – not only from the state but also from citizens, – emphasized the Aide to the President. – It is necessary to increase the literacy of the population and adhere to basic rules of digital hygiene.
The topic of digital hygiene is particularly relevant for the younger generation. Undeveloped psyche, susceptibility to suggestion and manipulation make children easy prey for attackers.
– Child safety online is not just about prohibitions, but about creating a secure environment and teaching proper behavior, – the speaker emphasized. – It is necessary to build trusting relationships with children in the family. Children should not seek understanding from strangers online, but be confident that they can tell their parents about any strange or unpleasant situation without fear of punishment.
