In unity is our strength and future. An open online meeting dedicated to the Day of National Unity was held at the Vitebsk Oblast Media Center.
The experts included Elena Nefedova, Chairperson of the Vitebsk Regional Trade Union Association; Sviatoslav Mikhailov, Head of the Information and Analytical Department of the editorial office of the regional newspaper "Vitebskiye Vesti"; Alexander Dedinkin, history teacher at Vitebsk Gymnasium No. 2 and public figure; and Viktor Lipsky, history teacher at Vitebsk Gymnasium No. 7, lecturer at the "Znanie" society, and winner of the "School of Young Lecturers" project.
"With the aim of consolidating society and uniting the Belarusian people on the basis of the ideas of sovereignty and independence, the President of the Republic of Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, signed a decree in 2021 to celebrate the Day of National Unity on September 17. This day became an act of historical justice for the Belarusian people, divided against their will back in 1921," emphasized Alexander Dedinkin. "I am deeply convinced that September 17, 1939, symbolizes the final formation of the Belarusian nation, and the proclamation of this date as the Day of National Unity is a philosophical realization of the unity of the Belarusian people. This date should remind us who we are and where we come from. It should instill pride in the country and the understanding that we, Belarusians, are a united people."
