Vitebsk Region and Uzbekistan's Namangan Region Discuss Cooperation Prospects

A delegation from Uzbekistan's Namangan Region, led by Deputy Khokim Okibjon Inamov, is on an official visit to the Vitebsk Region.
Prospects for cooperation in various fields were discussed at a meeting with the leadership of the regional executive committee.
As noted by Deputy Chairperson of the Regional Executive Committee Anzhelika Nikitina, this region is of interest due to its entrepreneurial projects. Tourism is also developed in the Namangan Region, with well-known resorts in Uzbekistan located there. Services, including logistics, account for one-third of the gross regional product. The Vitebsk Region has similar potential. The Silk Road trade route connects this region of Uzbekistan with our Dvina region. Therefore, there are many points of contact.
– There are opportunities to work in various sectors of the economy. For our colleagues, light industry accounts for almost the entire volume of industrial production. The Vitebsk Region also holds leading positions in the country for the production of light industry goods. We see opportunities for cooperation in this area. Therefore, the visit program includes a visit to the Orsha Flax Mill and the Bremimo-Orsha logistics center, – emphasized Anzhelika Nikitina.
The meeting also discussed the possibility of doing business and employment in the Vitebsk Region for citizens of Uzbekistan. By the way, today more than 200 representatives of this Asian country work in our region, employed in construction, agriculture, and trade. The exchange of tourists and the recreation of Uzbek children in our health resorts were also discussed.
Another point of contact is personnel training and cooperation in the field of education. There are eight universities in the Namangan region, including those training specialists for the light industry.
– We see great potential for joint work in agriculture and tourism. Currently, we are implementing projects with the Republic of Belarus for the processing of dried fruits, production of building materials, and refrigeration equipment. A plant for the production of mini-tractors is being built jointly with the Minsk Tractor Works. We are very interested in deepening business contacts with the Vitebsk region, – said Azimjon Obidov, Head of the Department of Investment, Industry, and Trade of the Namangan region.
Anzhelika Nikitina noted that although sister city ties have been established with the Namangan region, the region still remains insufficiently open. During the meeting, the parties agreed to exchange delegations before the Belarusian-Uzbek Women's Business Forum, which will be held this autumn, to discuss areas of cooperation in detail and sign a detailed roadmap.
