On the eve of Victory Day, the photo exhibition "Roads of Memory. Saint Petersburg – Vitebsk" opened in Vitebsk
The exhibition focuses on the works of Valentina Kabachevskaya, a native of Vitebsk now living in Saint Petersburg. On her way to her homeland, she stopped at monuments and visited settlements with military burials. This gave rise to the idea of the exhibition – to show the sacred places on the road of memory.
– The photographs capture not the well-known, iconic memorials, but graves and monuments located away from crowded places and major highways. All of them are well-maintained. It is evident that in small settlements, people remember the great feat of Soviet soldiers who gave their lives for our freedom and peaceful skies, – noted Gleb Lapitsky, member of the Council of the Republic, General Director of the "Vitebsk" Cultural Center.
The exhibition also includes photographs from Vitebsk residents who brought pictures of soldiers' graves taken during visits to relatives and nature trips in various parts of the Vitebsk region. By the way, during the exhibition (until May 15), it can be supplemented with new evidence on the "Road of Memory."
– The "Unforgotten" campaign unites people. On the opening day of the exhibition, there were many young faces. I am confident that in the following days, young people who worthily carry the torch of memory will also come here, – emphasized Gleb Lapitsky.
