Championship of Belarus in Wrestling Concluded in Vitebsk
08.06.2026
Today, Greco-Roman wrestlers competed in the Ice Palace. On the final day of the competition, athletes from the Vitebsk region won four medals.
The winner in the weight category up to 72 kg, Zakhar Yanevich, although representing Minsk at the championship, is also our countryman.
- I started wrestling at the Vitebsk Children's and Youth Sports School No. 3, then studied at the Vitebsk State College of the Olympic Reserve, - said the winner. - Now I am a student of the Belarusian State University of Physical Education. I prepared diligently for this start – it is the main one for me in the season. I couldn't take first place before. Of course, the home advantage helped. It's always better to wrestle at home. Although I represented Minsk at this championship, the fans know where I'm from and supported me. In the final, I wrestled with Viktor Buglak. We started our sports journey in the same hall and know each other well. In such situations, it is difficult to outsmart an opponent. Readiness at a specific moment comes to the forefront. My immediate goal is to make the Belarusian national team and perform with dignity at the World Championship in October.
The largest number of first places (4 each) were won by wrestlers from the Minsk and Grodno regions. In the weight category up to 67 kg, Andrey Syomin from the Grodno region became the best:
- It was a fantastic competition. This is my best achievement so far – it's the first time I've taken first place among adults. My secret is diligent daily training. I managed to walk around Vitebsk a bit – it's a beautiful ancient city.
