Issues of preparing agricultural organizations of the Vitebsk region for spring field work are discussed at a meeting of the regional executive committee
The Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee meeting discusses the preparation of agricultural organizations in the Vitebsk region for spring field work.
In a conversation with journalists, the chairman of the agricultural and food committee of the oblast executive committee, Andrey Bulavkin, reported that the overall readiness of machinery is currently 83%, and energy-saturated tractors are 88%. Part of the funds for repairs is allocated from the budgets. By the beginning of March, machinery readiness will be around 90%.
Agricultural enterprises are provided with seeds of grain crops, spring rapeseed, potatoes, and flax. A check of their condition is currently underway.
There is a shortage of 701 machine operators for spring field work. The personnel deficit will be compensated by workers from industrial enterprises, various organizations, and educational institutions.
The spring crop area this year will be 306 thousand hectares, including 146 thousand hectares for grain and leguminous crops. To ensure the livestock feed base, the areas for growing corn for grain are being increased to 30 thousand hectares.
According to the latest monitoring, the winter crop loss is 4-5%, which is within the average annual values, and for rapeseed, it is within 6%. However, winter survival largely depends on the weather conditions in March.
Andrey Bulavkin noted that there is some concern about floods. According to VitebskObLGidromet, while the snow cover in the Dokshitsy district is about 25 cm, in the Verkhnedvinsk district, it is about 50 cm. However, there is readiness for any development of the situation – the hydraulic structures on the balance of the land reclamation systems are in good working order.
The Dokshitsy district traditionally starts spring field work among the first.
According to the Chairman of the Dokshitsy District Executive Committee, Sergey Abiralo, preparations for spring began with the completion of autumn field work. Currently, the readiness of energy-intensive tractors is 95% (54 units in total in the region), and the repair of trailed equipment is being completed. The hauling of organic matter to the fields is actively underway – three mechanized detachments are operating. It is predicted that individual types of field work may begin in the third decade of March. Sergey Abiralo is confident that the region will carry out the sowing campaign at a decent level.
