Nikolai Sherstnev: Sowing campaign in the Vitebsk region must be completed in the shortest possible time

It was noted at the meeting that the main reason for the crop shortfall in the region is the prolonged sowing periods. Therefore, this spring it is necessary to start field work in a coordinated manner and to involve the maximum number of machinery in the sowing from the very first days.

"Not just one tractor should work in the field, but a mechanized unit. Ideally, we need to carry out sowing in a week. And then there will be a result," emphasized the head of the region. As for the structure of sown areas (whose total area is 798 thousand hectares, including fields with spring crops - 423 thousand hectares), half of the arable land is allocated to grain crops. At the same time, winter crops occupy about 187 thousand hectares, spring and leguminous crops are planned to be sown on 212 thousand hectares. Rapeseed will be cultivated on 105 thousand hectares (including spring rapeseed on almost 80 thousand hectares). The flax field of the region will expand by 500 hectares this year, its area will be 13.1 thousand hectares. Corn will be sown on 80 thousand hectares, while on 10 thousand hectares the crop will be cultivated for grain (corn grain fields will be located on the areas of created agroholdings). Potatoes will occupy 3 thousand hectares, vegetables - 0.4 thousand hectares, and fodder crops - 276 thousand hectares. Preparation of machinery for spring field work must be completed by March 15.
