Nikolai Sherstnev demanded the development of a clear development strategy for each enterprise

Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Nikolai Sherstnev demanded the development of a clear development strategy and the adoption of specific decisions for each enterprise in the region. He stated this today at a meeting of the regional executive committee.

Nikolai Sherstnev emphasized that the region is not working effectively enough. "We have not fulfilled the targets for internal regional product, labor productivity, export of goods, services, and net investment. And these are the main indicators. 320 organizations are operating with a negative financial result, incurring almost Br1 trillion in losses," the governor stated. "The main task now is to figure out whether our enterprises have a clear strategy, a well-thought-out work plan, whether the managers are focused on finding promising solutions, or if there is complete amorphousness," said Nikolai Sherstnev.

He noted that if managers do not see a way out of the current situation and only rely on the help of the authorities, then they should consider looking for other jobs. The Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee demanded that the development prospects of each enterprise be clarified as soon as possible and that specific decisions be made regarding the further fate of the economic entities. The directors of some enterprises, in particular OJSC "Plant "Vizas" and OJSC "Vitebskdrev," could not convince the leadership of the regional executive committee at the meeting that they were capable of leading their teams out of the difficult economic situation. As a result, the issue of the suitability of the managers for their positions was raised.

Continuing the discussion about problematic enterprises, Nikolai Sherstnev particularly noted the role of the leader. Often, organizations operating under equal conditions have striking differences in results. As an example, the governor cited the Braslav district: "It was the worst, and now it is in the group with positive dynamics. What has changed there? The leadership, the team has changed." Another example of effective work is OJSC "Vityaz," whose director is fighting for the future.

It was noted at the meeting that the measures taken in the region to increase efficiency have yielded certain results. The targets for investment in fixed assets from foreign sources, the number of citizens employed in newly created jobs, inventories of finished products, overdue foreign accounts receivable, exports of goods to new promising markets, energy saving, and commissioning of housing have been met. The cost level has been reduced by 3.8%.
