Laptop, flash drive, false denunciation…
A 27-year-old woman decided to increase her savings through a computer equipment fraud scheme, claiming the items were stolen from her by gypsies at the train station.
The idea for such an adventure came from her cohabitant, who persuaded her to file a report with the duty unit of the Vitebsk Internal Affairs Department on transport. The woman stated that her laptop, a wired mouse, a flash drive, and a coupon for additional service were stolen, with a total value of almost 7 million rubles. Law enforcement officers, suspecting something was amiss, reminded her of the responsibility for false reporting of a crime, but she insisted on her story.
The doubts of the police officers during the inspection of the scene were confirmed. It turned out that the civil spouses had carefully planned the scheme to obtain insurance compensation – the "stolen" laptop was purchased on credit, insured, and immediately sold. The actions of the "victim" are qualified under Part 1 of Article 400 of the Criminal Code.
— Falsehood that obstructs the administration of justice entails criminal liability. The accused was sentenced to 1 year and 10 days of imprisonment, — noted Victoria Shevernovskaya, assistant to the Vitebsk transport prosecutor.
The girl is serving her sentence in a correctional colony under general regime conditions. Such a strict sanction was applied to the accused because at the time of committing the crime, she already had a suspended sentence for theft in her criminal record.
