A Novopolotsk resident faked a disability certificate to travel on the train for free

A 47-year-old man was detained on the "Molodechno-Polotsk" train. When checking travel documents, the passenger presented a fake disability certificate to the ticket inspector. The latter immediately recognized the forgery, confiscated it, and handed it over to the police officers.

As it turned out, the Novopolotsk resident was actually a former second-group disabled person. During a routine examination, he asked doctors to change his disability to a third working group because he wanted to get a job. Due to a certain degree of wear and tear, this certificate had lost its appearance, so the resourceful man decided to trace over the entries in the document with a pen, changing not only the dates but also the disability group. He will have to pay 9 million for his actions.

"Most often, we encounter either forged official documents granting the right to free travel or genuine documents but issued to other individuals," explains Victoria Shevernovskaya, assistant to the Vitebsk Transport Prosecutor. "At the same time, only after being detained do the involved individuals realize that they may face criminal liability for committing a crime, rather than for fare evasion, the responsibility for which, as is known, is provided for by the norms of administrative legislation."
