Ensuring the qualitative support of the state prosecution and effective supervision of the legality of court decisions in criminal cases: the Vitebsk Regional Prosecutor's Office organized a training and practical seminar

A training and practical seminar was held at the Vitebsk Regional Prosecutor's Office, where problematic issues of the prosecutor's office exercising the function of supporting the state prosecution and improving the effectiveness of supervision over the legality of court decisions in criminal cases were discussed.

The event was attended by employees of the department for supervision over the legality of court decisions in criminal cases of the regional prosecutor's office; all city and district prosecutors of the region, the Vitebsk transport prosecutor, their deputies, as well as supervising prosecutors in this area of supervision were involved via video conferencing.

Opening the seminar, the Deputy Prosecutor of the region, Georgy Korenko, emphasized that participation in the judicial stages of criminal proceedings is one of the most important functions of the prosecutor's office.

The topic of the report by the Head of the Department for Supervision over the Legality of Court Decisions in Criminal Cases, Oksana Baleeva, was devoted to errors made by state prosecutors and courts when applying the Law of the Republic of Belarus of 26.05.2021 No. 112-Z "On Amendments to Codes on Criminal Liability".

The Deputy Head of the Department, Vitaly Suzansky, informed about the main requirements and innovations of the order of the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Belarus of 09.11.2021 No. 107 "On the organization of supporting the state prosecution and exercising supervision over the legality of court decisions in criminal cases". Errors and shortcomings made in the preparation of cassation appeals in criminal cases were also discussed.

Sergey Selikhanov, Deputy Head of the same department, in his speech highlighted the main requirements for the execution of the order of the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Belarus of 29.10.2021 No. 103 "On the organization of work on analyzing the reasons for acquittals, and other rehabilitating court decisions", as well as on the issues of compiling relevant statistical reports.

Senior prosecutors of the same department, Olga Verzhbovich and Natalia Gavrilyuk, highlighted the issues of calculating the periods of entry into force

of sentences into legal force and bringing sentences into compliance with Art. 9 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus.

Seminar participants were given the opportunity to ask questions, share their work experience and existing problems.

Overall, the results of the seminar allowed for the resolution of existing problematic issues and contributed to the professional development of prosecutors involved in this area of supervision.
