Ensuring legality and public safety during the preparation and conduct of the Presidential elections of the Republic of Belarus

The regional prosecutor's office held a coordination meeting on combating crime and corruption in the Vitebsk region on the issue of ensuring legality and public safety during the election campaign for the President of the Republic of Belarus. The meeting was attended by representatives of the regional prosecutor's office, territorial commissions for the election of the President of the Republic of Belarus, local executive and administrative bodies, the KGB Directorate for the Vitebsk Region, the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, the Ministry of Emergency Situations Directorate for the Vitebsk Region, and officials from other interested departments.

The coordination meeting reviewed the results of a prosecutor's inspection, during which the work of territorial commissions for the election of the President of the Republic of Belarus was studied, compliance with public safety legislation at polling stations was checked, issues of compliance with fire safety requirements at facilities of the electoral system were analyzed, and other issues related to the preparation and conduct of elections were examined. Particular attention was paid during the inspection to resolving citizens' social problems and considering appeals regarding compliance with electoral legislation.

The regional prosecutor's office identified certain shortcomings in ensuring fire safety at polling stations and other facilities of the electoral system (Polotsk, Braslav, Orsha, Rossonsky and other districts, Vitebsk city). At the time of the inspection, work on installing alarm systems had not been completed at some polling stations in the Orsha and Polotsk districts, as well as in Vitebsk city. Proper...

compliance with public safety legislation at large enterprises vulnerable to extremism in the cities of Vitebsk and Novopolotsk. The results of the inspection indicate the relevance of the issues under analysis and the need for close interaction in this work by all interested departments.

Following the coordination meeting, the Vitebsk Regional Prosecutor's Office has set a number of tasks for the heads of local authorities, law enforcement agencies, and other departments, the implementation of which will contribute to ensuring legality and public safety during the election campaign.
