Regional Agricultural Production: Vitebsk region farmers harvested nearly half of the grain areas

Agrarians of the Vitebsk region have closely approached the 50% mark of the harvesting campaign, the Committee for Agriculture and Food of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee reported.

As of the morning of August 12, 183 thousand hectares of grain crops have been harvested in the region, or 48% of the plan. The grain yield amounted to 602 thousand tons with an average yield of 32.9 centners per hectare, which is 1.5 centners per hectare higher than last year's level. The highest yield this year is noted in the fields of Orsha (43.6 centners per hectare) and Vitebsk (40 centners per hectare) districts.

The region plans to cross the mark of half of the harvested areas today. Nine districts have already overcome this bar: Beshenkovichi, Verkhnedvinsk, Dubrovno, Lepel, Miory, Orsha, Polotsk, Postavy, and Chashniki. The rest have come close. "Overall, the weather favors the rural workers. The average harvesting rate in recent days has been around 4% per day. Yesterday, it was somewhat slowed down by rains that occurred in different regions of the region. Now all efforts are focused on the speedy completion of the harvest," the regional agricultural department emphasized.

Along with the main task, other agricultural work is also being carried out in the region. Thus, flax pulling continues, which has been carried out on 8.7 thousand hectares, or 66% of the areas. Sowing of winter cruciferous crops has also begun. The first 4.5 thousand hectares of this crop have been sown, or 7% of the areas.
