Regional Agricultural Production: Corn harvested from over 30% of the area in the Vitebsk region
As of the morning of October 2, 35 thousand hectares of corn had been harvested in the region, or 34% of the area. The highest pace (74%) was achieved by farmers in the Verkhnedvinsk district. Among the leaders are also Rossonsky (66%), Postavy (56%), and Polotsk (53%) districts. The average harvesting pace in the region is currently 2.1-2.2 thousand hectares per day. Considering the completion of mass harvesting of other main types of autumn agricultural work, the villagers intend to increase their efforts in the coming days and reach a harvesting level of 4 thousand hectares per day. "It is planned to fully cope with the corn harvest within two decades of October, provided good weather," the regional agricultural committee noted.
Given the high moisture content of the grain (about 40%), corn harvesting is currently being carried out for green mass. 665 thousand tons of silage have already been prepared, or 21.4 centners of feed units per conventional head of cattle. This is 2.9 centners of feed units higher than in the same period of 2019.
The average corn yield in the region is 244.4 centners per hectare. The highest yields are noted in the Vitebsk (356 centners/ha) and Dubrovno (335 centners/ha) districts.
