Regional Agricultural Production: In Vitebsk region, potatoes have been harvested from 94% of the area
As of October 11, potato harvesting in the region was completed on over 1.6 thousand hectares, which accounted for 94% of all areas planted with the staple crop. In total, the region's farmers harvested 51.2 thousand tons of potatoes. The average yield of the crop in the region was 308 centners per hectare. The current unfavorable weather conditions have affected the harvest of one of the most popular vegetables. This year's yield is lower than that of the same period last year, when the average yield was 371 centners per hectare. Traditionally, the Tolochin Cannery leads in potato harvesting, with a yield of 386 centners per hectare. Districts of the region have completed or are completing the harvesting of these root crops, with the most work still to be done in the Vitebsk district.
Regarding the harvesting of other vegetables, farmers' work is approaching the halfway point. Carrots, beets, cabbage, and other crops have been harvested from 120 hectares, which is 45%. In total, agricultural enterprises of the Vitebsk region have collected 3.6 thousand tons of vegetables.
In many regions, college and lyceum students, especially those pursuing agricultural education, are assisting farmers. Young men and women are going out to harvest seasonal vegetables to ensure the harvest campaign is completed before the first frost.
