Regional Agricultural Production: Rapeseed harvesting is being completed in the Vitebsk region

Vitebsk region farmers are completing rapeseed harvesting: the last 400 hectares in the region are to be harvested within the next day or two, as reported by the Agriculture and Food Committee of the Regional Executive Committee.

As of the morning of September 23, a total of 29.1 thousand hectares, or 97% of the crop, have been harvested in the region. 38.1 thousand tons of oilseeds have been threshed with an average yield of 13.1 centners per hectare. 25.8 thousand tons (99% of the target) have been delivered to meet the state order. The highest gross rapeseed yield this year (18 thousand tons) was obtained by farmers in the Vitebsk district. Half of this yield comes from the Vitebsk Broiler Poultry Farm.

In 2020, it is planned to sow 80 thousand hectares of cruciferous crops (rapeseed and colza) in the Vitebsk region. Of these, 63 thousand hectares will be winter varieties.

The harvesting campaign for cereals and legumes is also nearing completion. The total yield is 1 million 76 thousand tons, which is almost 100 thousand tons more than last year's result. The average yield is also higher: 31.1 centners per hectare compared to 29.8 centners per hectare in 2019.

Currently, the main agricultural activities include sowing winter grain crops (these works have been completed on 43% of the area, or 107 thousand hectares) and harvesting corn. This crop has been harvested from 18.3 thousand hectares, which is 19% of the plan. The yield of green mass is 248 centners per hectare.
