Regional Agricultural Products Department: Farms in the Vitebsk region have sown more than 50% of the grain acreage
More than 50% of the grain acreage has been sown in the Vitebsk region, the Committee for Agriculture and Food of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee reported.
Early spring crops in the northern region have been sown on 120.5 thousand hectares, with the plan for them fulfilled by 113%. Farmers in Chashniki, Lepel, Rossony, Glubokoye, Polotsk, Verkhnedvinsk, and Postavy districts have fully coped with the task. Sowing of flax has been carried out on 55% of the planned areas, with Miory and Glubokoye regions already completing this work. Individual agricultural organizations have begun sowing corn - 5.8 thousand hectares. In Vitebsk, Glubokoye, Postavy, and Tolochin districts, potatoes have been planted on 791 hectares. The weather is adjusting the sowing campaign schedule; the pace had to be slowed down due to rain and snow in the region. "Although sowing operations have been underway in the Vitebsk region since April 4, normal sowing only began on April 28. Our key districts, Tolochin, Orsha, and Dubrovno, were hit by adverse weather conditions, making sowing impossible. When these regions joined the work, our pace immediately increased," the regional agricultural committee explained.
At the same time, farmers continue to tend to the surviving crops. 24% of winter cereals and 20% of winter cruciferous crops on an area of 56 thousand hectares have been top-dressed for the second time. As clarified in the committee, the provision of fertilizers is almost twice as high as last year.
