Regional Agricultural Products: Farms in the Vitebsk region have begun the second mowing of grasses, with fodder procurement indicators exceeding last year's level

Mass harvesting of second-cut grasses has begun in the Vitebsk region, as reported by the Committee for Agriculture and Food of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee.

This week, agricultural producers across the entire region have joined the effort to harvest the second cut of grasses. Over July-August, 100 thousand hectares are to be harvested. During the first and partially the second stage of grass forage harvesting, rural workers mowed 255 thousand hectares of grass, harvesting 569.5 thousand tons of feed units, or 14.1 centners per conventional head of cattle. This is 2.7 centners of feed units higher than last year's level.

Hay has been harvested in the amount of 93.2 thousand tons (70% of the target), haylage - 1.8 million tons (79%), including 83 thousand tons in polymer packaging (23 thousand tons more than last year on the same date), and silage - 63.5 thousand tons (3% of the target; the main part will be harvested during corn harvesting).

Currently, the harvesting of winter rapeseed is actively continuing in the region's farms. The crop has been harvested on 26.6 thousand hectares, or 57% of the area. The grain yield is 39 thousand tons with a yield of 14.7 centners per hectare (slightly higher than last year's level).

Preparations are also underway for the harvesting of grain and leguminous crops, which agricultural producers of the Vitebsk region plan to actively commence in the last days of July - early August. Selective harvesting is already underway in Chashniki, Vitebsk, Beshenkovichi, Braslav, Orsha, Shumilino, Tolochin, and Sharkovshchina districts. The first 800 hectares have been mowed. In total, the region is to harvest these crops (including corn, millet, and buckwheat) on 391.6 thousand hectares.
