Regional Health Department: Medical institutions in major cities of the Vitebsk region will continue to treat patients with COVID-19 from districts

Some of the previously repurposed healthcare facilities in Vitebsk, as well as inter-district centers in Polotsk, Novopolotsk, and Orsha, will continue to admit patients with COVID-19, including those from neighboring districts, reported Mikhail Vishnevetsky, Head of the Main Department for Healthcare of the Regional Executive Committee.

According to him, the number of patients with coronavirus seeking outpatient care and hospitalizations in the region is steadily decreasing. In this regard, starting from March 1, the surgical building of the city emergency hospital will return to its usual operations, and from the first day of spring, the regional hospital will begin providing planned high-tech medical care.

The head of the regional healthcare department noted that the situation varies across the districts of the region, but it is not acute anywhere. Gradually, medical facility departments are being freed up for their specialized work, and the treatment of patients with the virus is being transferred to infectious disease wards. "Regarding the treatment of COVID-19 patients, we have directed districts adjacent to Vitebsk to regional institutions and allowed central district hospitals to operate in a free mode. Also, of course, inter-district centers in Polotsk, Novopolotsk, and Orsha will continue to work with COVID patients. These institutions will take in complex and regular patients from central district hospitals that are neighbors to these three major cities," noted Mikhail Vishnevetsky.

He also mentioned that the third batch of the Sputnik V vaccine is planned for delivery next week. This will allow for more intensive vaccination against COVID-19 for employees in education, sports, and culture.

Answering journalists' questions about improving the material base of healthcare institutions in the Vitebsk region, Mikhail Vishnevetsky noted that by the end of the year, they intend to open the under-construction building of the regional clinical center for medical rehabilitation for disabled individuals and veterans of combat operations in other states. Repairs are planned in some central district hospital departments. Additionally, this year they plan to install computed tomography scanners in Lepel, Glubokoye, the regional tuberculosis dispensary, and the regional hospital, as well as an MRI in Polotsk.
