Regional Health Department: The process of updating and improving healthcare facilities in the Vitebsk region continues
The COVID-19 pandemic has shown that we cannot relax and medical institutions must continue to strengthen their material and technical base.
Medical equipment is being gradually updated in hospitals and polyclinics of the Vitebsk region. This allows for complex examinations, expands diagnostic capabilities on-site, and brings high-tech medicine closer to patients in the regions.

As reported by Mikhail Vishnevetsky, Head of the Main Department for Healthcare of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, there are 13 computer tomographs operating in the region, the number of oxygen connection points has been increased to 2355, and there are enough oxygen concentrators, stationary and mobile artificial lung ventilation devices.
This year, computer tomographs have been put into operation at Lepel Central District Hospital, the Regional Clinical Center of Pulmonology and Phthisiology, and the Regional Clinical Hospital. Premises are being prepared for the installation of computer tomographs at Vitebsk City Clinical Hospital No. 1 and an X-ray apparatus at Glubokoye Central District Hospital. In the first quarter of 2022, a magnetic resonance imaging apparatus will be installed in Polotsk.
The supplied equipment is designed not only for the diagnosis and treatment of coronavirus.
A PCR laboratory, the ninth in the Vitebsk region, opens in Braslav on September 14. It will serve the western part of the region, and analyses will not have to be transported 120 kilometers to the nearest laboratory in Polotsk, Novopolotsk, or 220 kilometers to Vitebsk.
In the region, as in Belarus as a whole, valuable experience in countering the spread of infection has been accumulated during the pandemic, schemes for diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation of people, and interaction of various structures have been worked out.
Active vaccination of the population against COVID-19 is underway. As of September 7, about 152 thousand people in the Vitebsk region have completed the full course of immunization. However, the coronavirus is not giving up, so infectious disease departments of district hospitals in Novolukoml, Miory, Ushachi, and Sharkovshchina have resumed admitting patients with COVID-19.

Thanks to the computed tomography scanner at Lepel Central District Hospital, a round-the-clock inter-district center for thrombolytic therapy for patients with acute ischemic stroke has been operating since September. Residents of Dokshitsky, Ushachsky, Chashniksky, and Lepel districts are treated here.Similar centers operate in Vitebsk, Polotsk, Novopolotsk, Orsha, and Braslav.
