Regional Health Department: The decline in coronavirus infection rates in the Vitebsk region is proceeding with confidence
Mikhail Vishnevetsky, Head of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee's Healthcare Department, characterized the current COVID-19 morbidity situation in the region as follows:
-- Over the past two weeks, we have noted a significant and steady decline. The workload on the pediatric service has decreased threefold compared to the peak observed, and the morbidity among the adult population is 30 percent lower from week to week. The workload on weekend appointments is not what it was two weeks ago. Nevertheless, the outpatient polyclinic link continues to operate on a seven-day basis, and contact teams also make home visits to patients.
According to specialists, three-quarters of the morbidity in the region is attributed to the Omicron strain, which is characterized by high contagiousness but less aggressive disease progression. The Delta strain of coronavirus is circulating in parallel, which in some cases requires hospitalization for the treatment of pneumonia.
The number of beds repurposed for COVID-19 treatment in the Vitebsk region remains the same. According to the head of the regional healthcare department, there are currently 2020 beds, including 1180 in Vitebsk. The provision of planned medical care has not been halted. The Vitebsk City Emergency Hospital, the Regional Center for Pulmonology and Phthisiology, the Regional Infectious Diseases Hospital, the Regional Maternity Hospital, and the urology department of the Regional Clinical Hospital are fully operating in the mode of infectious disease hospitals. Inter-district centers and infectious disease departments of several Central District Hospitals provide care in the region. Five district hospitals are operating in their normal mode.
