Regional Health Department: the surgical building of the Vitebsk Oncology Center will begin admitting specialized patients next week
Disinfection of the surgical building of the regional oncology dispensary will begin on May 13. "In parallel, patients of surgical profile will be admitted to the therapeutic department and prepared for operations. From May 18, the building will resume its specialized work," said Mikhail Vishnevetsky. Next week, it is also planned to prepare the neurological building of the regional hospital for specialized admission.
At the beginning of this week, on May 4 and 5, disinfection was carried out at the Vitebsk Regional Clinical Specialized Center. Then, the medical staff of the institution were given two days for rest. Specialists of the center were among the first in the city to join the fight against the epidemic. Starting today, they have resumed admitting patients with pneumonia, but in the standard bed capacity that was initially available. There is no longer a need to increase the number of beds. "If coronavirus is detected in patients, we will assess the situation and possibly transfer them to the infectious disease hospital," noted the head of the Vitebsk Regional Healthcare Department.
Characterizing the epidemiological situation in the region, Mikhail Vishnevetsky stated that the number of pneumonia cases is decreasing. Currently, more patients are being discharged than admitted to hospitals. "Medical personnel have been provided with personal protective equipment for the last 3-4 weeks, there is a stock in warehouses, and there is no acute shortage. Healthcare institutions receive the necessary supplies centrally twice a week," added the head of the main department for healthcare.
Responding to a question about additional payments to categories of medical workers providing assistance to patients with infections and first-level contacts, the head of the regional health department noted that the issues arising are being worked out on a planned basis by the economic planning service of the department and medical institutions, and chief physicians. "We sought clarification from the Ministry of Health and communicated the answers to the local level. If there is any misunderstanding, the employee will be explained everything. What is determined by the state today will be paid," assured Mikhail Vishnevetsky.
