Oleg Matskevich: workplace injuries are a lack of executive discipline on the ground
"For 6 months of this year, the level of industrial injuries has decreased by almost 30% compared to the same period last year. Over six months, 8 workers died and 31 received industrial injuries at enterprises of communal property – the architecture and construction system, and agriculture. The majority of accidents occurred because employees were intoxicated. The main causes of injuries and fatalities at work are the non-fulfillment of labor protection requirements and rules at the local level," emphasized Alexander Khristoforov, Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee's Labor, Employment, and Social Protection Committee.
He added that the total costs, including payments under mandatory insurance against industrial accidents and occupational diseases, amounted to over Br11 million for the half-year. Among the most hazardous professions, he named drivers, livestock breeders, and auxiliary workers. The nature of the injuries received has not significantly changed from year to year: falls from height, being hit by moving transport, damage from rotating or flying objects and parts of mechanisms. Alexander Khristoforov also noted that the average age of those injured at the workplace is 47 years.
Oleg Matskevich individually reviewed each case of workplace fatalities with representatives of district executive committees. "People are behind each fact. Many of the tragic incidents occurred at enterprises that are among the best in their industry. They relaxed. Attention should be paid to all organizations and enterprises, not just problematic ones. There is a lack of executive discipline and systematic work at the local level, which leads to employee injuries. All this is due to the leniency and formalism of managers," concluded the First Deputy Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee.
He ordered to report to him on the results of the investigation of each fatal workplace accident, as well as to strengthen the work of commissions for the prevention of occupational injuries and occupational diseases.
