The memory that lives within us

Employees of the prosecutor's offices of the Vitebsk region visited the Vitebsk Regional Museum of the Hero of the Soviet Union Minay Filippovich Shmyrev. The museum was established by the Decree of the Council of Ministers of the BSSR dated February 1, 1996, and opened on July 5, 1969, during the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the liberation of Belarus from the Nazi invaders.

As part of the excursion, employees of the regional prosecutor's office participated in the quest "Partisan Trail," during which they tested their knowledge of the main events of the military history of Belarus and Vitebsk.

After successfully completing all the tasks, the employees visited the 4 exhibition halls of the museum, which present materials about the labor and civil activities of Minay Filippovich Shmyrev, his feats and personal life, as well as the development of the partisan movement in the Vitebsk region.

The excursion concluded in the memorial park located in the museum courtyard, where the prosecutor's office employees visited the designed partisan dugouts and familiarized themselves with items of partisan life.

The life story of a simple guy, born in the village of Punishche, Vitebsk region, who at the age of 23 went to the front during World War I, and during the Great Patriotic War led the 1st Belarusian Partisan Brigade, thanks to whose actions the famous "Vitebsk (Surazh) Gate" was created, who, after a personal tragedy in which he lost four young children, continued to live and work for the good of the Motherland, will not leave anyone indifferent. Much has been written about the Hero of the Soviet Union in poems, songs have been composed, and films have been made. For the younger generation, the main task is to prevent the feat of the people during the Great Patriotic War from being forgotten, to sacredly honor the memory of the heroes and victims of the most terrible war in human history.
