One of the criteria for evaluating the activities of any government body is the protection of the rights and legitimate interests of citizens. The successful resolution of tasks largely depends on the effectiveness of interaction with the public.

The Vitebsk Transport Prosecutor's Office handles both written appeals from citizens and oral appeals during personal reception.

In the first half of 2020, the Vitebsk Transport Prosecutor's Office received 21 (10) appeals from citizens. Of the received appeals, 12 (4) were resolved on the merits, and 9 (6) were forwarded to other bodies. 10 (2) appeals concerned issues of supervision during pre-trial proceedings, and 2 (0) concerned supervision of legislation enforcement.

The Vitebsk Transport Prosecutor's Office takes prosecutorial response measures upon detecting violations of legislation based on the results of considering appeals. For example, when considering the complaint of B.S.A. regarding a ruling on an administrative offense under Article 18.32 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Republic of Belarus, violations of administrative and administrative-procedural legislation were identified. The Vitebsk Transport Prosecutor's Office filed a protest against the said ruling, which was subsequently granted.

During the specified period, the Vitebsk Transport Prosecutor's Office received 10 (12) appeals from legal entities, of which 6 (9) were resolved on the merits, and 2 (1) were forwarded for resolution to other organizations.

Legal entities appealed to the Vitebsk Transport Prosecutor's Office with petitions for filing lawsuits to recover debts.

For instance, in June 2020, the Vitebsk branch of the railway appealed to the prosecutor's office with a petition to recover over 8,000 rubles from LLC under a debt transfer agreement, as well as interest for the use of others' funds. The Prosecutor's Office filed a corresponding lawsuit with the Economic Court of the Vitebsk Region, which was subsequently granted.
