UN Resident Coordinator in Belarus, Raoul Bagirov, met with students of VSMU
Over one hundred second-year students of the Faculty of General Medicine attended the meeting. The students listened with interest to the lecture by the UN representative and asked him questions that concerned them. In particular, the lecturer emphasized that medical education is one of the most progressive and in-demand fields in the world. Issues of public health, sustainable development goals in Belarus, the UN's work in our country, the meaning of life, and the future of the medical profession were also touched upon.
– It is an honor and of great interest for me to meet with students of the Vitebsk State Order of Peoples' Friendship Medical University, as I am a medical professional myself, having gone through all stages of medical education and worked as a doctor. I then transitioned from the medical field to development and am now involved in international diplomacy. I hope my experience will be useful for future doctors. I am confident that medical education provides an opportunity for a person to develop not only in the medical field but also globally as a citizen of planet Earth. Doctors throughout history have become poets, writers, and historical figures. I want to emphasize to medical students that it is important to be not only a doctor but also a human being, – stressed Raoul Bagirov.
– It is a great honor for the university to host such an outstanding specialist. The attention paid by the United Nations to the healthcare system of Belarus and our university, in particular, is highly valued. It is beneficial for students to learn about the strategic directions that are currently leading in the world in solving the important task of achieving the sustainable development goals, which are relevant for decades to come, and that they are part of global trends in the development of medicine, life, and state social policy. A doctor is unique in that they contribute to the development of universal, humanistic values, and the preservation of health and life on the planet, – noted the Rector of VGMU Alexey Chukanov.
