A representative of the Vitebsk Regional Prosecutor's Office took part in the reburial ceremony of the remains of more than 80 soldiers

A memorial service dedicated to the reburial of the remains of over 80 Red Army soldiers who died during the Vitebsk operation of the Western Front was held near the village of Noviki, Vitebsk district.

The event was attended by Viktor Kolbun, Head of the Department of the Vitebsk Regional Prosecutor's Office for Supervision of Execution in the Troops, as well as the Chairman of the Board of the Moscow Regional Public Organization "Memory and Reconciliation", the Chairman of the Youth Parliament under the State Duma of Russia, local authorities, a clergyman, officials of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, residents of the Vitebsk district, and mass media.

For reference: from February to March 1944, along the line of the villages of Perevoz – Shapur, the rifle corps, tank brigades, and self-propelled artillery regiments of the 33rd Army conducted offensive battles to break through the enemy's defenses.

The search expedition lasted more than a week. The remains were exhumed by servicemen of the 52nd Separate Specialized Battalion of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus, and searchers from Moscow and Novopolotsk.

In total, there are over 1520 military burial sites in the Vitebsk region, where the remains of more than 400,000 Red Army soldiers are interred, half of whose names have been identified. Work in this direction is actively continuing.

Viktor Kolbun addressed the participants of the rally and local residents of the Vitebsk district on the importance of preserving the memory of the soldiers, their feat, and sacrifice for the well-being of future generations, and thanked the servicemen and public organizations for their search efforts.

After the reburial of the remains, the rally participants honored the memory of the fallen with a minute of silence and laid flowers at the grave.
