Direct telephone line: Nikolai Sherstnev received more than three dozen calls on pressing domestic issues

Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Nikolai Sherstnev received more than three dozen calls regarding pressing domestic issues during a direct phone line with the region's residents.

The majority of the appeals came from Vitebsk residents and concerned the housing and communal services sector: issues of repair, broken sidewalks and pedestrian paths in the private sector, landscaping, operation of the city's lighting system, cleaning of adjacent territories, and water supply were raised. At the same time, people often complained about the indifferent attitude of specialists they had previously contacted to resolve their problems.

The Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee drew the attention of the heads of all authorities present in the studio during the video conference to the inadmissibility of such conduct in dealing with people. In his opinion, this problem is becoming widespread not only in the regional center and primarily concerns middle-level specialists. "We need to break down the barrier between people and the authorities, and seriously punish such incidents. Then, perhaps, they will get moving, otherwise they come, take office, and that's it – nothing gets done," stated Nikolai Sherstnev. In his opinion, there is a culprit in every such situation, and they must be held accountable for their actions, up to and including dismissal from their positions.

The head of the region paid special attention to the role of the chairmen of city and district executive committees, who should always be on the side of the people. "A person should not live with a problem. We, the authorities, must solve it," emphasized Nikolai Sherstnev.

A resident of the agro-town of Stasevo, Liozno district, called regarding rusty water. According to Nikolai Nikolaevich, all issues related to water purification in the region are planned to be resolved within the next three years. Financial resources have been allocated for these purposes. This appeal served as a reason to once again point out to local leaders the importance of regularly informing residents on current topics concerning their lives. "People should know what and when will be done," reminded Nikolai Sherstnev.

Residents of Novopolotsk, Shumilino, Vitebsk, and Senno districts also contacted the hotline with their issues. Each appeal has been taken under control, and authorities will try to help resolve the issues in the near future.

In total, since the beginning of the year, 565 appeals have been received by the regional executive committee's direct telephone line. Almost half of them concern the housing and communal services sector. Also relevant for people are issues of road management, transport, agro-industrial complex, energy supply, social security, trade, and healthcare. The largest number of calls were recorded from residents of the regional center, Orsha, Vitebsk, Polotsk, and Senno districts.
