The problem of death and injury of citizens on railway transport facilities

The issue of death and injury of citizens, especially minors, on railway transport facilities is under the close attention of the Vitebsk Transport Prosecutor's Office.

The inspections carried out on the compliance with the legislation on the safety of movement and operation of railway transport invariably concern the issues of preventing injuries to citizens by rolling stock.

As a rule, the causes of accidents on the railway are personal carelessness, inattention, violation, and sometimes disregard of safety measures and rules for crossing railway tracks by the victims themselves.

In the 1st half of 2021, one case of injury to a minor by rolling stock occurred at the facilities supervised by the Vitebsk Transport Prosecutor's Office.

Thus, on 05.03.2021, on the railway tracks of the "Orsha-Central" station, after being hit by the regional economy-class train No. 6022 "Minsk-Orsha", a first-year student of the educational institution "OGMEK" born in 2005, residing in Orsha, who was crossing the railway tracks at a pedestrian crossing, was injured. The victim was hospitalized in the intensive care unit of the healthcare institution "Orsha Central Hospital No. 1" with a diagnosis of traumatic amputation of the left foot.

The injury to the minor was a consequence of her non-compliance with safety measures when crossing the railway tracks.
