A seller of copper coins from the Russian Empire era has been brought to administrative responsibility

The Prosecutor's Office of the Sennensky District, as part of its supervision over the enforcement of legislation on the protection of archaeological heritage, analyzed information and materials posted on the global computer network Internet related to the circulation of archaeological artifacts.

During the study of the Internet resource "KUFAR.BY", a fact was established regarding the posting of an advertisement by a local resident for the sale of coins that may be classified as archaeological heritage of the Republic of Belarus.

In accordance with the requirements of the Code of the Republic of Belarus "On Culture", the search for archaeological objects and archaeological artifacts in the Republic of Belarus may only be carried out during archaeological research based on a relevant permit issued by the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

The acquisition, sale, donation, exchange, and pledge of archaeological artifacts are prohibited, except for the execution of these transactions by state scientific organizations and state museums, as well as in relation to archaeological artifacts that were in the possession of individuals and legal entities as of March 18, 2016, and are included in the relevant register compiled by the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.

In accordance with Articles 19.8 and 19.9 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Republic of Belarus, illegal search for archaeological artifacts and illegal circulation of archaeological artifacts entail administrative responsibility.

Through coordinated joint actions of the prosecutor's office and the police of the Sennensky District, the specific person and other necessary circumstances related to this fact were established, and measures were taken to seize the coins and send them for examination.

According to the conclusion of the Vitebsk Regional Commission on Archaeological Objects and Archaeological Artifacts, the submitted coins, numbering 13 pieces, are genuine copper coins of the samples of 1735, 1757-62, 1867-1917, have historical and scientific significance, and are archaeological artifacts.

The Court of the Sennensky District imposed an administrative penalty on the aspiring coin seller under Article 19.9 of the Code of the Republic of Belarus on Administrative Offenses in the form of a fine of 10 base units.
