Prevention of bicycle theft from stair landings
Every year, the number of bicycles increases, and unfortunately, so does the number of bicycle thefts.
In 2019, 303 criminal cases were initiated in the region for bicycle theft, and 85 cases were initiated in the first 5 months of 2020. This statistics does not include reports and notifications of theft of two-wheeled vehicles, the cost of which did not exceed 2 basic units (54 rubles).
At the same time, a bicycle is a rather valuable, and often carelessly stored, property. It is not uncommon for expensive bicycles to be left unattended or secured with a lock that can be opened without special tools and devices. It is unlikely that there is any other property of similar value that owners treat so carelessly. Thieves increasingly take advantage of this carelessness and irresponsible attitude towards property.
To prevent property theft, be sure to lock your bicycle, even if you leave it for a minute. Remember that cheap and thin cables are easily cut. It is best if their thickness is more than 1 cm, as this will create at least some additional difficulty for "thieves". Always lock your bicycle by the wheel and frame, and if the cable allows, by both wheels and the frame.
When leaving your bicycle, be sure to take all removable equipment with you (bicycle computer, pump, flashlight, etc.), and, very effectively, the saddle. The attractiveness of such a "dismantled" bicycle without a saddle for "thieves" and "hooligans" who decide to take a ride is significantly reduced.
If your bicycle is stolen, call the police immediately. Post information about the stolen bicycle on the Internet, including on relevant forums, with pre-made photos.
If you manage to find your stolen bicycle yourself, it is best to report it to the police. But if you decide to retrieve the bicycle yourself, do not use violence. Harming "thieves" is also an offense, and it can also provoke more serious offenses, including against you.
It is necessary
to maximally counteract theft:
taking basic measures to ensure property safety;
never buy a used bicycle without documents;
Remember that in such a case, you risk becoming the owner of a stolen means of transport and motivating "thieves" to commit a new theft.
