Trade Union Practices: Together - Protecting Workers' Rights
To provide citizens with the opportunity to come, ask questions, receive answers, and get prompt assistance, employees of the Vitebsk region prosecutor's office actively participate in conducting trade union receptions.
In this regard, an Agreement on Cooperation in the Sphere of Protecting Constitutional Rights and Guarantees of Workers and Strengthening the Protection of Socio-Economic Rights and Guarantees of Workers in the Vitebsk Region was concluded between the Prosecutor General's Office of the Republic of Belarus and the Federation of Trade Unions of Belarus in 2018.
As a rule, the range of questions asked by citizens concerned labor relations: timeliness of wage payments, conclusion and termination of contracts, compensation for work on weekends and holidays, procedures for bringing to disciplinary responsibility, and granting of leave. The proportion of questions related to labor relations out of the total number of applicants was over 70%.
In 2019, 9 trade union receptions were organized and held in the Vitebsk region, which were held simultaneously in all regions of the area. With the participation of prosecutors, more than 700 people were received at the receptions.
The analysis of the effectiveness of interaction through legal receptions of citizens indicates that the participation of employees of the prosecutor's office strengthens the protection of the rights and guarantees of citizens and workers in the sphere of labor relations, and contributes to the prompt resolution of incoming issues.
The interaction between trade union structures and the prosecutor's office of the region will be continued in the future.
