The Vitebsk Regional Prosecutor's Office pays increased attention to issues of human trafficking in the region
A meeting of the multidisciplinary working group responsible for the identification, referral, and reintegration of victims of human trafficking was held at the Vitebsk Regional Prosecutor's Office. This event was organized at the initiative of the Representation of the International Organization for Migration in the Republic of Belarus and the Vitebsk public association Belarusian Red Cross Society. Representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Belarus for the Vitebsk Region, city and district prosecutor's offices of the region, the Polotsk Border Group, the Belarusian Red Cross Society, and the "Hands of Help" Center took part in the work.
During the meeting, issues related to the implementation of legislation in identifying cases of human trafficking in the region, the causes of labor and sexual exploitation of citizens, the provision of material, social, and psychological assistance to this status category, and the role of prevention entities in this area were discussed. In addition, the situation with migrants from Ukraine was touched upon by those present.
Based on the results of the event, the Regional Prosecutor's Office will initiate a discussion of the aforementioned issues in the second half of the current year at a meeting of the coordination council for combating crime and corruption in the Vitebsk region. Active interaction and close cooperation between the security forces of the northern region and the Representation of the International Organization for Migration in the Republic of Belarus, and the Vitebsk public association Belarusian Red Cross Society will also continue.
