The Vitebsk Regional Prosecutor's Office pays attention to compliance with legislation on social protection guarantees for children of orphan categories

Local authorities and educational institutions have taken additional measures to protect the rights of orphaned children.

Thus, when children who are orphans undergo health resort treatment abroad, the conditions of their stay will now be controlled not only by the sending organizations but also directly by the education department of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee. Organizational measures have been taken to improve the selection of candidates as escorts for children abroad, which will allow for the selection of the most trained and responsible employees for this important work, capable of ensuring the rights of children abroad in a timely and effective manner. Requirements for the selection of children with priority rights for health resort treatment abroad have been tightened.

For failure to ensure sufficient safety of children when traveling abroad for health resort treatment, and for failure to inform the higher organization about instances of improper treatment of children abroad, a number of officials and heads of orphanages have been disciplined, and the employment relationship with one of the educators has been terminated.

A monitoring of the observance of children's rights in foster families has been carried out, and additional measures have been taken to protect the rights of children when they are registered as needing improved housing conditions, and to inspect the residential premises assigned to orphans.

At the request of prosecutors, the waiting list for housing improvement for more than 30 orphaned children has been improved in terms of timing. Requirements for the selection of persons in foster families have also been strengthened.

In the Orsha, Tolochin, and Ushachi districts, the activities of family-type orphanages have been brought into compliance with legislation and the legal interests of children; in the Sharkovshchina and Tolochin districts, children have been granted survivor's pensions.
