In order to minimize child deaths from external causes, the Vitebsk Oblast Prosecutor's Office will take additional measures in 2019 to consolidate the work of prevention entities in preventing severe injuries among minors. In 2018, 14 minors died in the region as a result of drowning, fires, road traffic accidents, falls from height, and other causes, which is almost half the number compared to the previous year (2017 - 27 child deaths).

This was facilitated, among other things, by the systematic and progressive work in the region in this area of activity. At the initiative of the Vitebsk Oblast Prosecutor's Office, since 2015, executive committees and prevention entities in the regions have been carrying out continuous work to identify potentially dangerous objects for children, eliminate violations of safety requirements during their operation, and conduct appropriate explanatory work among children and their parents.

However, prosecutor's inspections indicate that mismanagement and negligence of the owners of dangerous facilities where children died, the inefficiency in bringing families out of unfavorable conditions, and parental negligence continue to contribute to child deaths. There is still potential for preventive work.
