A board meeting was held to summarize the department's work for 2018

Under the chairmanship of the Prosecutor of the Vitebsk region, Vadim Valentinovich Sushchinsky, with the participation of his deputies, heads of structural divisions of the regional prosecutor's office, prosecutors of cities and districts of the region, and other staff members, a board meeting was held on the results of the department's work for 2018.

The event was attended by the Deputy Prosecutor General of the Republic of Belarus, Alexander Dubov.

In his speech, Vadim Valentinovich stated that in 2018, the prosecutor's offices of the Vitebsk region carried out systematic, targeted work to ensure the supremacy of law and law and order, and to coordinate the activities of law enforcement and other government bodies in the fight against crime and corruption.

A stable crime situation has been maintained in the region, and the work of law enforcement agencies and other crime prevention entities is generally quite effective.

In 2018, there was a decrease in both overall crime and crime in the criminal investigation sector.

Thus, compared to the previous year, the number of committed crimes decreased by 6.2% – 9,675 crimes compared to 10,317 in 2017.

In 2018, there were 81.7 crimes per 10,000 inhabitants.

Minors were less involved in crimes (from 200 to 173 crimes). The regional prosecutor pointed out the need to increase attention to issues of crimes committed by minors, as well as criminal encroachments against them, especially encroachments on the sexual inviolability of children.

In 2018, the number of thefts decreased (3836/4309, -11.0%), although they still account for more than a third of all committed crimes (39.8%).

The number of crimes committed by persons in a state of alcohol intoxication (1493/1562, -4.4%), by a group of persons (487/629, -22.6%), and in public places (1900/2023, -6.1%) decreased.

The situation with deaths from external factors has been stabilized. The number of people who died as a result of road traffic accidents (65/77), alcohol poisoning (218/234), and drowning (58/75) decreased.

The Deputy Prosecutor General of the Republic of Belarus briefed colleagues on checks of law enforcement regarding the timely payment of wages to citizens.

The Prosecutor of the region also noted that in 2019 the focus of prosecutors will also be on the fight against corruption and the effectiveness of enforcement agencies.

Following the meeting of the collegium of the Vitebsk Regional Prosecutor's Office, in order to strengthen legality and law and order, combat corruption, and protect the rights and legitimate interests of citizens and the state, a decision was made that defines new tasks and specific measures for their implementation.
