A comprehensive inspection of the implementation of the Law of the Republic of Belarus "On the Fundamentals of Crime Prevention Activities" by crime prevention entities in Novopolotsk was carried out by a working group of the regional prosecutor's office with a visit to the region.

In pursuance of the comprehensive program for the prevention of offenses in the Vitebsk region for 2016, the working group of the regional prosecutor's office, by visiting the region, conducted a comprehensive inspection of the compliance by the subjects of offense prevention in Novopolotsk with the Law of the Republic of Belarus "On the Fundamentals of Offense Prevention Activities".

Employees of the public security police of the Internal Affairs Directorate of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee (Public Security Police Department, Drug Control and Anti-Trafficking Department) and employees of the Vitebsk Regional Ministry of Emergency Situations with relevant territorial units on the ground, as well as prosecutors from the Novopolotsk prosecutor's office, were involved in the monitoring.

The inspection was necessitated by a significant increase in intentional homicides and other negative trends in the crime situation in Novopolotsk based on the results of 2015.

During the inspection, certain shortcomings were identified in the organization of individual preventive work with teenagers in the accounting category by the City Department of Internal Affairs, educational institutions, etc., as well as formalism in the planning of general preventive work aimed at minimizing offenses among youth.

In addition, individual shortcomings in the implementation of general and individual preventive work were identified in the activities of the City Department of Internal Affairs, councils of public law and order points, and other prevention subjects.

Based on the results of the inspection, the regional prosecutor's office will submit an act of prosecutorial response to the chairman of the Novopolotsk City Executive Committee.
