Exactly at noon on June 22, when life in all of Belarus stopped for a minute, representatives of the regional and city leadership, security forces, and public associations bowed their heads to the sounds of a metronome at the monument to the Soviet soldiers-liberators, partisans, and underground fighters of Vitebsk region.
Spectators in the Summer Amphitheater froze – a live broadcast of the rally was being held there.
A company of the honor guard laid a wreath of mourning at the Eternal Flame, and officials laid flowers.
– Exactly 85 years ago, the Great Patriotic War began. We gathered here and at the monument to say: we remember those who gave their lives for peace and freedom! This monument is granite-frozen resilience, courage, and the unbreakable will of our defenders, – commented the announcer in the amphitheater.
The nationwide minute of silence marked the beginning of the concert-requiem "Pulse of Memory" – thus, two places and one common meaning became a whole, connecting generations, names, and destinies.
