The «NON» sphere is under the prosecutor's control

Today, each of us increasingly hears and reads in the press about tragedies that, in the vast majority of cases, happen to young people due to drug use. It is widely known that the use of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances rapidly and irreversibly destroys a person's health and personality. According to statistical data, the main age group of people consuming narcotic substances consists of young people aged 14 to 30 years.

Unfortunately, drug consumption often becomes part of youth leisure, penetrating nightclubs, educational institutions, and courtyards.

For this reason, countering the spread of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, and preventing their consumption, continue to be among the most important areas of activity for the law enforcement system, as well as the healthcare and education systems of the Republic of Belarus.

Despite the significant work done in this direction, both classic and synthetic types of drugs are still actively spreading in society. Criminals are developing and using new methods and schemes for their distribution, including through the Internet.

In the first quarter of the current year, 81 crimes related to illegal actions involving narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, their precursors, and analogues were registered in the Vitebsk region.

Based on the results of the work carried out in the first quarter of 2021, law enforcement officers of the Vitebsk region detained 12 "couriers" of online stores, against whom criminal cases were subsequently initiated.

Thus, on 03.30.2021, employees of the Department of Internal Affairs of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, during operational-search activities, detained a worker of one of the enterprises in Novopolotsk, born in 1990, in Polotsk. For the purpose of sale, he was carrying and storing in his garage 502.35 grams of the particularly dangerous psychotropic substance "para-methyl ephedrone" (mephedrone). A criminal case was initiated against the specified person under Part 3 of Article 328 of the Criminal Code.

Republic of Belarus, the sanction for which provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of six to fifteen years with or without a fine.

In total, based on the results of the work in the first quarter of the current year, law enforcement officers of the Vitebsk region seized 8,124.212 grams of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and their analogues from illegal circulation, of which 2,265.82 grams are narcotic drugs, and 5,858.392 grams are psychotropic substances.

The main source of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances entering the region is their illegal supply from the territory of the Russian Federation.

The work of law enforcement agencies, as well as prevention entities, to prevent and detect crimes in the sphere of illegal trafficking of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, their precursors and analogues, is under the constant control of the prosecutor's office of the Vitebsk region.
