Ensuring safety – preserving life

In anticipation of the New Year and Christmas holidays, it is worth reminding parents and their minor children once again about the need to observe the basic rules of conduct at railway transport facilities:

   - in the dark, clothing must have reflective elements;

- railway tracks must be crossed only in designated areas, using pedestrian bridges, tunnels, crossings, and platforms, as well as in places with special signs;

- before crossing tracks on a pedestrian crossing, make sure there are no moving trains;

- when a train approaches, stop, let it pass, and only after ensuring there are no rolling stock in adjacent sections, continue crossing;

- railway crossings can only be crossed when the traffic light signal is green;

- boarding (alighting) from carriages should only be done after the train has come to a complete stop and from the side of the platform or boarding platform.

IT IS FORBIDDEN:

-        to walk on railway tracks;

-        to crawl under carriages and climb over couplers to cross the tracks;

-        to walk along the railway track closer than 5 meters from the outer rail;

-        to board or alight from a moving train;

-        to jump from the platform onto the railway tracks;

-        to play active games on the platform and tracks;

-        to run along the platform next to a carriage of an arriving or departing train, as well as to be within two meters of the platform edge while a train is passing;

-        to approach the carriage before the train has come to a complete stop;

-        while the train is moving, passengers must stay inside the carriage only.

-        it is strictly prohibited for passengers to travel on the steps of carriages, transition platforms, in vestibules, on the roofs of carriages.

Vitebsk Transport Prosecutor's Office hereby informs that over 12 months of 2016, 2 people were injured by rolling stock on the territory served by UP "Vitebsk Branch of Belarusian Railway", no fatal injuries were recorded.

We would like to hope that the examples given will make people think about the consequences of carelessness when being in close proximity to railway tracks, as well as on them, and will help not only to avoid but also to prevent such terrible cases of recurring tragedies.

The absence of fences in places of mass passage of citizens, overpasses and pedestrian crossings, weak preventive work in work collectives directly involved in ensuring traffic safety, failure to take response measures against violators, along with the carelessness of citizens, their non-compliance with the rules of conduct on the railway, including being on railway tracks while intoxicated, the absence of reflective elements on clothing in the dark, are the main reasons for citizens being injured by railway rolling stock.

Let's cherish the most important thing we have and what nature has given us – Life.

Only through joint efforts will we protect ourselves, our families, and our loved ones from accidents and tragedies.

         For crossing or being on railway tracks in an unauthorized place, administrative liability is provided for under Part 5 of Article 18.3 of the Code of Administrative Offences of the Republic of Belarus, which entails a fine ranging from two-tenths to two basic units.
