Export of cultural property outside the Republic of Belarus

                     Vitebsk region is a region with a rich cultural heritage and significant creative potential.

         There are 783 cultural institutions operating in the region: 365 libraries, 327 club institutions, 26 museums, 52 children's art schools, 3 secondary specialized educational institutions of culture, a methodological center, 2 theatrical and entertainment institutions, 1 park of culture, a zoo, 5 film distribution organizations.

         Annually, more than 90 thousand events are held in the Vitebsk region, including 9 international, 3 republican, about 30 regional festivals, holidays, reviews, and competitions.

    One of the most significant international festivals is the International Festival of Arts "Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk", within the framework of which about 20 accompanying cultural projects and events are held annually.

         Also traditionally held are: Festival of Ancient and Modern Chamber Music (Polotsk), International Festival of Traditional Culture "Braslavskie Zarnitsy", International Festival of Song and Music "Dneprovskie Golosa v Dubrovno", International Festival of Folk Music "Zvinyats' Tsimbaly i Garnik" (Postavy), International Festival of Arts "Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk", International Festival "Vishnyovy Festival" (Glubokoye), Festival of Organ Music "Zvany Safii" (Polotsk), International Competition of Young Pop Singers "Khali-Halo" (Novopolotsk), International Festival of Modern Choreography (IFMC, Vitebsk), I.I. Sollertinsky Music Festival (Vitebsk), Republican Festival of Friendship and Art "Two Rivers" (Dokshitsy), Republican Festival of Circus Art "Arena" (Orsha), Republican Open Competition of Amateur Films named after Yuri Tarich "I Shoot a Movie" (Polotsk).

    Festive events dedicated to honoring the laureates of the title "Person of the Year of Vitebsk Region"; the festival-fair of agricultural workers of the Vitebsk region "Dazhynki" have become branded for the region.

Currently, there are 572 collectives with the title "People's" and "Exemplary" in the region, and 22 have the honorary title "Merited Amateur Collective of the Republic of Belarus".

      52 children's art schools with a total contingent of over 15 thousand students are engaged in aesthetic education of the younger generation in the Vitebsk region.

Professional personnel in the field of culture are trained by the Vitebsk State College of Culture and Arts, the Vitebsk State Musical College named after I.I. Sollertinsky, and the Novopolotsk State Musical College.

Concert and entertainment services for the population are provided by the Vitebsk Regional Philharmonic and the Belarusian Theater "Lyalka". Annually, theatrical and entertainment organizations hold about 800 events with the participation of Belarusian performers, as well as artists from abroad.

          The libraries of the region serve over 370 thousand readers. More than 100 public centers of legal information provide legal assistance to library users.

          The museum network of Vitebsk and the Vitebsk region consists of 26 museums. Among them are the National Polotsk Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve (branches of which include the Museum of the History of Architecture of St. Sophia Cathedral, the Museum of Belarusian Book Printing, etc.), the Vitebsk Regional Museum of the Hero of the Soviet Union M.F. Shmeryov, and the Vitebsk Regional Museum of Local Lore.

            In recent years, new museum institutions have begun to operate in the region: the Verkhnedvinsk Historical and Local Lore Museum, the Museum of the History of Private Collecting in Vitebsk (a branch of the Vitebsk Regional Museum of Local Lore). In the historical mansion at 5a Mark Chagall Street in Vitebsk, the Museum of the History of the Vitebsk People's Art School has been opened, which tells about the city's history at the beginning of the 20th century, the activities of the aforementioned educational institution, the Vitebsk period in the lives of M. Chagall, K. Malevich, L. Lissitzky, V. Ermolaeva, etc. Recently, the Dubrovno District Historical and Local Lore Museum has begun its activities.

            997 historical and cultural values located in the Vitebsk region are included in the State List of Historical and Cultural Values of the Republic of Belarus.

Systematic work is being carried out to identify and preserve intangible cultural heritage. Currently, 25 elements of the Vitebsk region are included in the State List of Intangible Historical and Cultural Values of the Republic of Belarus.

         With the aim of further developing the cultural sphere, it is planned to improve the quality of services provided by cultural institutions of the region, introduce new types of services and new forms of cultural services, and expand cooperation in the field of cultural ties with foreign countries.

            Holding significant cultural events, further development of partnership and international relations in the field of culture contributes to the formation of a positive image, tourism attractiveness, and expansion of trade and economic ties of the Vitebsk region.
