Meeting on the issue of identifying conditions that threaten people's lives in everyday life
In the Vitebsk region, the number of fires and deaths from them increased in the first three days of the year compared to the same period last year (by eight cases and five people, respectively), the head of the regional emergency situations department, Sergey Meshalkin, told reporters.
"Since the beginning of 2019, the region has seen an unfavorable situation with fires and deaths from them compared to last year. As of January 4, there were 17 fires (9 in the same period last year), and 6 people died (1). All of them were intoxicated. In Belarus, the Vitebsk region accounts for 57% of all fire deaths. In addition, according to the results of 2018, an increase in the number of fires was registered in 20 districts of the region, and deaths in eight," Sergey Meshalkin noted.
To prevent further growth, on the upcoming weekend (January 5, 6, and 7), prevention entities will work actively: their representatives at the level of village councils and housing and utility departments will visit the homes of citizens who abuse alcohol and check if their stove equipment is in good working order. Police officers, housing and utility workers, healthcare professionals, social services, emergency services, and representatives of local authorities will remind this category of citizens about basic fire safety rules. In addition, information on this will be disseminated during services in churches and cathedrals of the region.
Today, a meeting was held at the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee on identifying conditions that threaten people's lives in everyday life. It was attended by heads of regional structures and departments, and representatives of regional and local authorities.
