Joint meeting of the Presidium of the Regional Council of Deputies and the Regional Executive Committee: special attention to be paid to the condition of agricultural facilities, management of municipal waste, and elimination of unauthorized landfills
Over Br31 million was allocated for the improvement and orderliness of rural settlements in the Vitebsk region last year, including Br17.2 million from the regional budget. This was announced today at a joint meeting of the presidium of the Vitebsk Regional Council of Deputies and the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee by the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Committee for Natural Resources and Environmental Protection, Viktor Galanov.
According to him, utility organizations, state forestry institutions, enterprises servicing roads and railways, power grids, land reclamation systems, and agricultural facilities participated in the improvement efforts. Patronage organizations assigned to rural settlements provided assistance. Their contribution to the common cause amounted to Br2.6 million of their own funds. "Local authorities and councils of deputies also play an important role in addressing issues of improvement and orderliness," emphasized Viktor Galanov.
Touching upon the main results achieved, he noted that thanks to joint efforts, a number of settlements in the region have been transformed: Begoml of Dokshitsy district, Bogushevsk of Senno district, Kirovo and Mazolovo of Vitebsk district, Bigosovo of Verkhnedvinsk district, Novoselki of Postavy district, Borovka of Lepel district, and others. A significant amount of work was completed in Braslav district for the regional festival-fair "Dazhynki-2019". Over 530 hectares of inefficiently used and vacant land have been brought into agricultural circulation. More than 600 vacant and dilapidated houses have been demolished. Housing and communal services organizations have repaired 223 thousand sq.m. of road surface on streets and driveways. Road organizations have improved the surface of 227 km of roads and equipped more than 1 thousand public transport stops. Many agro-towns and villages have been decorated with small architectural forms.
At the same time, much remains to be done, considering that 2020 is the final year in the trilogy of the Year of the Small Motherland, noted Viktor Galanov. In his opinion, special attention should be paid to the condition of agricultural facilities, the handling of municipal waste, the elimination of unauthorized landfills, and the optimization of the number of mini-landfills for solid household waste in rural areas. In the spring period, the main efforts should be focused on combating Sosnowsky's hogweed.
