Livestock preservation under control!

In accordance with the instructions of the Head of State and the directives of the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Belarus, the regional prosecutor's office has carried out a set of verification and supervisory-analytical measures aimed at preventing unproductive cattle losses and ensuring proper operating conditions for livestock facilities.

The cattle population in the region for January-August 2023 decreased by 8,731 heads (-1.7%) compared to the same period last year. A reduction in livestock was noted in 14 out of 21 districts.

Mortality increased by 778 heads (+11.5%), including in the Chashniksky district by 2.7 times (from 196 to 548 heads), Shumilinsky - by 2.9 times (from 330 to 691 heads), Vitebsky - by 1.6 times (from 502 to 839 heads), Dubrovensky - by 1.3 times (from 311 to 430 heads).

The main reasons for mortality continue to be: feed deficit, non-compliance with zootechnical and veterinary rules, standards for keeping and feeding livestock, shortage of zootechnicians and veterinarians, and lack of funds for timely purchase of veterinary drugs.

For instance, during a visit to one of the farms in the Shumilinsky district, violations of the technology for keeping and feeding newborn calves were identified. There were instances of insufficient quantities of medications and biological preparations for disease treatment and prevention.

Facts were revealed where a company in the agro-industrial complex had not organized duty service for maintenance personnel during mass calving, lacked a colostrum bank, pasteurizers, and transport for timely delivery of livestock to meat processing plants, and experienced a deficit of medications and veterinary preparations.

Similar violations of livestock keeping and feeding technology were identified in some organizations in the Sennensky and Shumilinsky districts.

Violations of organizational and technological requirements during fodder harvesting were identified by prosecutors in the Verkhnedvinsky, Dubrovensky, Gluboksky, Postavsky, Chashniksky, Sharkovshchinsky, and Shumilinsky districts.

For example, in one of the farms in the Shumilinsky district, silage trenches near two dairy farms were partially uncovered, the film

the silage had damage, the haylage was wet and showed clear signs of rotting. By order of the prosecutor's office of the region, the feed was sent for research to determine its class and suitability for feeding to animals.

Following the supervisory measures, the prosecutor's office of the region submitted a representation to the chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee, simultaneously informing the Assistant to the President of the Republic of Belarus – Inspector for the Vitebsk Region Brylo I.V.
