Draft dodgers to answer for their actions

The Vitebsk Regional Prosecutor's Office in the first half of the year conducted inspections of the enforcement of legislation during the conscription of citizens for active military service, service in reserve in the military commissariats of Gluboksky, Gorodok districts and the military commissariat of Polotsk, Rossony districts and the city of Novopolotsk.

Military commissariats and conscription commissions are carrying out extensive work on the conscription of citizens for active military service and service in reserve.

The majority of young people understand this work and are willing to serve in the army. However, not all conscripts realize the importance and responsibility of this stage of life. There are also those who evade service by all means, hiding from military enlistment office employees and the police.

In relation to two such negligent conscripts – residents of Gorodok district and the city of Novopolotsk, based on the results of the inspection by the Vitebsk Regional Prosecutor's Office for evasion of conscription measures, 2 criminal cases have been initiated under Part 1 of Article 435 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Belarus.

For further preliminary investigation, the materials have been sent to the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Belarus for the Vitebsk region.

For reference: draft dodgers face criminal liability, including imprisonment for up to two years.
