On the Day of National Unity, the State Flag Square is solemnly opened in Orsha
The ceremony is attended by the Chairman of the Vitebsk Regional Executive Committee Alexander Subbotin, the Assistant to the President - Inspector for the Vitebsk Region Vladimir Yurgevich, and the Deputy Chairman of the Regional Executive Committee Vyacheslav Durnov.
Congratulating the residents of Orsha on the holiday, the head of the region emphasized that the state flag is the embodiment of Belarus's sovereignty and independence. Its colors represent the strength and courage of our people, the purity of intentions and peaceful aspirations of Belarusians, and the fertility and generosity of our land. The ornament of the flag, created by Matryona Markevich, a native of the neighboring Sennensky district, embodies the traditions of the Vitebsk region.
"It is symbolic that we are opening the square on the Day of National Unity," said Alexander Subbotin. "This date has a deep historical and spiritual meaning. September 17, 1939, became an act of historical justice – the reunification of Western and Eastern Belarus, which put an end to the artificial division of our people that lasted for two decades. The Day of National Unity is a holiday that reminds us that only together, as a united nation, can we overcome any challenges, preserve our identity, and build a strong, stable, and prosperous state. It is a day of remembrance for those who fought for our common homeland, and a day of pride for what we, Belarusians, have managed to preserve and multiply our national heritage. I am confident that the square will become another center of attraction for the residents of Orsha and guests of the city. A place where important socio-political events will take place. Here, everyone will feel a connection to the great history and future of our country. May the state flag of the Republic of Belarus, which will proudly fly over the Orsha land, always protect our peaceful labor, serve as a symbol of freedom, independence, and unity of the Belarusian people! Happy holiday, fellow countrymen! Happy Day of National Unity!"
