Unique Exhibition Project "Victory Fashion" Launched in Novopolotsk

12.05.2026

The unique exhibition project "Victory Fashion" has been launched in Novopolotsk, offering a look at the history of the mid-20th century through the prism of aesthetics and style.

The exhibition goes beyond the usual war chronicles, presenting clothing as a symbol of revival and aspiration for a peaceful life. The exhibition tells about the incredible strength of spirit of Belarusian women. Despite the difficult times, they maintained a sense of beauty, strived to be beautiful, creating fashion literally out of nothing or carefully preserving trophy European dresses.

The display cases feature not just clothes, but living stories: wedding dresses that marked the beginning of new lives, and those very handbags that our grandmothers and great-grandmothers queued for, as well as famous perfume bottles "Carmen" and "Krasnaya Moskva," brooches with Peking glass inserts, and even an umbrella from a Minsk factory that is over 70 years old. In addition to women's attire, men's wardrobe is also presented: a coat, a gymnasterka (military shirt), and a rural national costume.

By visiting the exhibition halls, visitors can not only see unique outfits from the 1940s and 1950s, footwear, and accessories, but also learn about the fashionable hairstyles of that era, the creation of the first Fashion House in the country, and the ladies who became role models.

The project, dedicated to the Year of Belarusian Women and Victory Day, can be viewed until June 7.

The project was realized thanks to the cooperation of the Museum of History and Culture of Novopolotsk, the National Polotsk Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve, the Vitebsk Regional Museum of Local Lore, and the Yakub Kolas National Academic Drama Theatre.
